CONFIRMED SHORT NOTICE MISSION
COL Otto P Scharth, 90, US Army, Retired
WWII, Korean War & Vietnam Veteran


The family of Colonel Otto Scharth has requested the presence of the Patriot Guard Riders at the Memorial Service of their Loved One.

Colonel Scharth enlisted in the US Army in May 43. He participated in the following campaigns: World War II; the Moselle to Saar River Operation in France; the Battle of the Bulge in Belgium and Luxembourg; the Assault Crossing of the Rhine River in Germany; the attack across Germany to the Czech border; the Communist Insurgency Movement in the Philippines, where he was wounded; the Korean War; and the Vietnam Conflict. Colonel Scharth retired from the Army in May 75, after 32 years of service. Upon retirement, he began a career with UMHB where he served as the first Director of Military Affairs from 75 through 90. He cofounded the Belton Kiwanis Club in 76; taught Youth Sunday School at Belton First United Methodist Church; served on Senator Gramm's US Military Academy Nomination Committee; served as Commander of the Fort Hood Chapter of the Military Order of the World Wars (MOWW) and promoted this organization in numerous presentations throughout the community; cofounded the Youth Leadership Conference of the Fort Hood Chapter of the MOWW and also instructed these conferences in Corpus Christi.

Staging Location: Baptist Student Ministries Chapel, UHMB, 710 North Pearl Street, Belton, TX 76513 (http://tinyurl.com/BapStdntMinistryUMHB) We will park in the grass on the NW side of the building.

Briefing: 1015

Flagline Establishment: 1025 +/- Once the Funeral Service begins; we will strike the flagline and be released.

WX: Mostly cloudy, with a high near 88. South wind 10 to 15 mph.

Notes:

1. We are parking on the grass. It is dry now and should be no problem, but bring a kickstand pad just in case.

2. Be at staging ON TIME.

3. Hydrate well prior, bring water for yourself and a buddy and dress with consideration of the weather conditions.
