The family of Sergeant First Class Joe Varnell has requested the presence and participation of the Patriot Guard Riders at the Funeral Service and Interment of their Loved One.
Joe is a veteran of the Vietnam War, where served with distinction as a Combat Infantryman. While there he earned several medals, including the Silver and Bronze Stars, as well as a Purple Heart. After 21 years of active duty he retired. He was one of the founders of the Southwest Bell Volunteer Fire Department and enjoyed his many years as a firefighter and board member. Flagline Establishment: 0925 +/- Once the Funeral Service begins; we will strike the flagline and prepare to participate in the procession to the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery.
Staging Location: The cul-de-sac between the Walk of Heroes and the Memorial Shelter at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery located off TX 195 just south of Killeen, TX (http://tinyurl.com/CenTexVetsCeme)
Briefing: 1115 – Upon clearance and at the direction of the Ride Captain, we will move to the shelter, set up the flags and await arrival of the procession.
WX: Sunny, with a high near 62. North northwest wind 5 to 10 mph becoming light and variable in the afternoon.
Note: Hydrate well prior, bring water for yourself and a buddy and dress with consideration of the weather conditions.
