Command Sergeant Major Martin Barreras
US. Army KIA


The Patriot Guard has been invited by the family and the Army to assist with the escort of Command Sergeant Major Martin Barreras, on Thursday (May 22). CSM Barreras died at San Antonio Military Medical Center, Joint Base San Antonio, Texas, from wounds suffered on May 6, in Harat Province, Afghanistan, when enemy forces attacked his unit with small arms fire, while assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 5th Infantry, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division, Fort Bliss, Texas. This escort will begin at Olinger-Saenz Mortuary, where the Patriot Guard will move in procession (LEO escort in place) to Randolph Air Force Base, where CSM Barreras will be flown home to be laid to rest. Time and permission from the Air Force permitted, a honor line will be formed at Randolph Air Force Base. If available, please try to attend to honor one of our Fallen Heroes and help support the family during their time of loss. Thank you.

Bio: CSM Barreras served 5 years in the Marines before enlisting in the Army, where he served 22 years in the 75th Ranger Regiment, serving in 1st and 2nd Battalions, the Special Troops Battalion and the regimental headquarters. During which time he completed multiple combat deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan, as well as Operation Just Cause in Panama, Operation Restore/Uphold Democracy in Haiti, and other special operations contingency missions. CSM Barreras received serveral awards during his service including the Purple Heart with one oak leaf cluster, Iraqi Campaign Medal with three stars, Afghanistan Campaign Medal with four stars, Combat Infantryman Badge with one star, Ranger Tab, Master Parachutist Badge with bronze star, Military Freefall Badge and Pathfinder Badge. CSM Barreras was also part of the special forces team that rescued PFC Jessica Lynch from a hospital in Iraq in 2003.

Helmets, Long Pants & Shirt Sleeves and Closed Toed Shoes Are Required While Riding On Randolph Air Force Base Grounds – No Exceptions / The Patriot Guard Will Enter With The Army Procession As A Group, and Depart As A Group – No Exceptions
