Manuel joined the military at the age of 18. He spent several years in the Army Corps of Engineers. Manuel was stationed in Korea and Germany which he loved dearly. While in the army, he had two handsome sons, Manuel Jr and Gary. It was also in the Army that he was able to expand his knowledge of planes and helicopters. He would be able to identify an army helicopter just by the hum it made as it flew overhead. He spent most of his off time building models and replicas that he would take on flights.
