LtCol Betty Joe "BJ" Charlton, 86, US Air Force, Retired, Temple, TX
The family of Lieutenant Colonel "BJ" Charlton has requested the presence and participation of the Patriot Guard Riders at the Funeral Service and Interment of their Loved One.
Lieutenant Colonel Betty Joe Charlton passed away peacefully on June 3, 2016, at the William R Courtney Texas State Veterans Home in Temple. She held RN licenses in Tennessee and Texas. “BJ” joined the US Air Force and was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in 1952. She retired in 1975 at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel with 23 years of service. She had a special love for her dogs. It goes without saying, she loved the Air Force. “BJ” completed Flight Nurse School in 1954 at Gunter AFB, AL, and was on flying status out of Mobile, AL for several years. Upon retirement from the Air Force, she became the Nursing Administrator at Twelve Oaks Hospital in Houston, TX and was the first to get the hospital accredited. She also worked at the US Embassy in Sana’a, Yemen. She had USAF assignments in the US, Germany, Turkey and the Philippines. Setup & Briefing: Upon clearance and at the direction of the Ride Captain, we will move to the shelter, set up the flags, be briefed and await arrival of the procession.
