CSM Elijah King, Jr, 64, US Army, Retired, Operations Desert Shield, Desert Storm, and Iraqi Freedom, Legion of Merit and Bronze Star (2OLC) Recipient, Killeen, TX

The family of Command Sergeant Major Elijah King has requested the presence and participation of the Patriot Guard Riders at the Funeral and Committal Services of their Loved One.

Elijah was born in Tuskegee, AL. He enlisted in the Army in August 1977. Along with serving in Korea and Germany, he is a veteran of Operation Desert Shield/Storm and served two tours in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. He retired from the US Army in 2007 as Command Sergeant Major of the 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, at Ft Hood. During his service in the Army, King was a recipient of numerous awards and recognitions, including the Legion of Merit, and three Bronze Star medals for his service in combat. Following his military career, he continued to support the military and community through positions in various organizations, serving as Co-Chairman of the Fort Hood Retired Council and the Chairman of the Central Texas Area Veterans Advisory Committee. His motto: "Old Soldiers never die and I refuse to fade away! Soldier for Life!" Elijah had a serving heart when it came to giving back to the community. He was a member of numerous councils, civic, and local organizations. He served on the Chief of Staff Army (CSA) Retiree Council, Co-Chairman of the Fort Hood Retiree Council, Texas U. S. Congressman John Carter, Central Texas Chapter 88, Retired Enlisted Association, Veterans Helping Veterans-Star Group, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Retired Enlisted Association, Harker Height Rotary Club, Communities in School, Killeen Branch NAACP, and Men of Purpose Men's Ministry. Flagline Establishment: 0925 +/- Once the Funeral Service begins; we will strike the flagline and prepare to participate in the procession to the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery.

Staging Location: The cul-de-sac between the Walk of Heroes and the Memorial Shelter at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery, 11463 SH 195, Killeen, Texas 76542 (http://tinyurl.com/CenTexVetsCeme)

Setup & Briefing: Upon clearance and at the direction of the Ride Captain, we will move to the shelter, set up the flags, be briefed and await arrival of the procession.

WX: Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly before 1pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 80. South southwest wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%.

Notes:

1. Be at stagingS ON TIME.

2. This will be a very large funeral with many Veterans MCs attending and participating. Be prepared for changes and possible long waits.

3. Hydrate well prior, bring water for yourself and a buddy and dress with consideration of the weather conditions.

I offer my condolences to the family and friends of this IRAQ / AFGHANISTAN WAR HERO who will not be forgotten. Rest in peace forever free.
