Sgt/Detective Sergeant Joel "Johnny" Thompson III, 69, US Marine Corps Veteran, Waco & Austin PDs, OF Hutto, TX
The family of Sergeant "Johnny" Thompson has requested the presence of the Patriot Guard Riders at the Committal Service of their Loved One. Any members desiring to attend the Austin portion of this mission see below or the Austin website at AusPGR.org
Johnny served two years in the Marines, being discharged with the rank of Sergeant. After the Marines he was a Waco policeman for four years, then moved to Austin, and retired from the Austin Police Department after 25 years as a detective Sergeant. He was an avid Harley-Davidson rider and he dearly loved his three pups. He was most proud to be a card-carrying Choctaw Indian and Choctaw Tribal Member, descendant of Hy-Yip-Atonka (Second Pond), before the name changed to Thompson. Setup & Briefing: Upon clearance and at the direction of the Ride Captain, we will move to the shelter, set up the flags, be briefed and await arrival of the procession from Cook-Walden Capital Parks Funeral Home in Pflugerville.
WX: A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Some of the storms could be severe. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 84. South wind 5 to 10 mph.
Notes:
1. Be at staging ON TIME.
2. Hydrate well prior, bring water for yourself and a buddy and dress with consideration of the weather conditions.

Confirmed Mission: The Patriot Guard Riders have been invited to participate in the funeral and burial services for Mr. Joel Thompson. Mr. Thompson served 2 years in the USMC, leaving the service with the rank of Sergeant. He then served as a Waco police officer for four years and followed that with 25 years in the Austin PD, retiring as a detective Sergeant.

Notes: Arrive fed, fully fueled, and hydrated. Bring a bottle of water for yourself and one for a friend. After the start of the funeral service we will strike the flag line and stand by to join the law enforcement escorted procession to the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen for a 1 pm interment service. Upon arrival we will fall under the direction of the Centex PGR ride captain.
