The Temple Chamber of Commerce has requested the participation of Patriot Guard Rider Members during the escort of Veterans from the William R Courtney Texas State Veterans Home to the Frank W Mayborn Civic & Convention Center for the 35th Annual Military Appreciation Luncheon.
The Military Appreciation Luncheon includes the presentation of the Nation’s Colors by the 1st Cavalry Division Honor Guard, music from 1st Cavalry Band, patriotic message, and a special presentation. This year's guest speaker will be George P Bush, Texas Land Commissioner. Past presenters have included Lieutenant General Paul E Funk II, Commanding General of III Armored Corps and Fort Hood, MG Clark LeMasters, Commanding Officer, 13th ESC/Fort Hood; Keifer Marshall, Jr, USMC (Ret), a survivor of the Battle of Iwo Jima; COL (Ret) Bill Pailes, director of the Temple High School JROTC program, retired from the USAF and former shuttle astronaut; and, LTG (Ret) Paul “Butch†Funk, former Commanding Officer, III Corps/Fort Hood. 1. NO WEAPONS. The Staging Location is on Federal Property, and pictures have to be approved by the VA to ensure no photos of patients are taken.
2. Be at staging ON TIME and TOPPED OFF.
3. Hydrate well prior, bring water for yourself and a buddy and dress with consideration of the weather conditions.
