LTC Eugene Cargile, 83, US Army, Retired, Vietnam Veteran, Purple Heart and (2x) Bronze Star Medal Recipient, OF Lago Vista, TX
The family of Lieutenant Colonel Eugene Cargile has requested the presence of the Patriot Guard Riders at the Committal Service of their Loved One.
Eugene was a graduate of West Point Military Academy, Class of 1963. His radio call sign was “Rough Rider 6,” and his fiercest loyalty was to his country and the US Army. Eugene Cargile served in the Army for twenty four years in various assignments to include the 82nd Airborne Division, MACV Vietnam, the 1st Cavalry Division (twice), the Pentagon, and the 8th Infantry Division, and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel. Honored for his bravery and leadership, Eugene received multiple awards and decorations including: Ranger Tab, Parachutist Badge, Expert Infantry Badge, Combat Infantry Badge, Vietnam Service Medal, National Defense Medal, Republic of Vietnam Commendation Medal with Device, Air Medal (OLC), Army Commendation Medal, Bronze Star Medal (2 OLC), Bronze Star Medal (Valor), Purple Heart (OLC), and Meritorious Service Medal (2 OLC).
Eugene’s exemplary service as an Infantry Battalion Commander resulted in acts of a warrior’s bravery that distinguished him among his peers as a strong, compassionate military leader. Eugene also served effectively as the Deputy Executive Director to the Adjutant General of Texas. He was also a member of Disabled American Veterans and the 5th Battalion 7th Cavalry Association. Setup & Briefing: Upon clearance and at the direction of the Ride Captain, we will move to the shelter, set up the flags, be briefed and await arrival of the procession.
