SSG Ervin Benjamin "Chip" Scovel, 74, US Army, Vietnam Veteran, OF Suffolk, VA
The family of Staff Sergeant Ervin Benjamin "Chip" Scovel has requested the presence of the Patriot Guard Riders at the Committal Service of their Loved One.
Following graduation, Chip enlisted in the United States Army to go on to serve in the 173rd Airborne Brigade and complete two tours in Vietnam. His distinguished serviced alongside his brothers in arms earned him several unit medals to include his awarded three bronze stars. Following his return home from Vietnam and a small gap in service with the Army, Chip found himself back among the enlisted ranks as a helicopter quality controls inspector at Fort Hood in Killeen, Texas. Following an injury on the job, Chip found himself in line for an honorable medical discharge. Setup & Briefing: Upon clearance and at the direction of the Ride Captain, we will move to the shelter, set up the flags, be briefed and await arrival of the procession.
WX: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly sunny, with a high near 96.
Notes:
1. Be at staging ON TIME.
2. Hydrate well prior, bring water for yourself and a buddy and dress with consideration of the weather conditions.
3. The family asks for a Patriot Guard Rider to escort Chip to the shelter, if able.
