The family of Command Sergeant Major James Robert Berndt has requested the presence of the Patriot Guard Riders at the Committal Service of their Loved One.
During Sam’s twenty four years of service to our Great Country his awards include: Silver Star, Bronze Star (w/v device, 1 OLC), Purple Heart w/2 OLC, Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal w/2 OLC, Army Achievement Medal w/1 OLC, Army Commendation Medal w/1 OLC, National Defense Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Oversea Service Ribbon, #2, CIB – Combat Infantryman Badge, Drill Sergeant Badge, Master Parachutist Badge, Expert Rifle Badge, NCO Professional Development #5, Vietnam Service Medal w/1 Silver 2 Bronze Service Stars, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry w/Plam 2nd Award, Republic of Vietnam Civil Actions Honor Medal.
Sam proudly served at Fort Hood, Texas for Basic Training (no A/C) June/August 1960. Fort Sill, Oklahoma OJT September/December 1960. KMAG (Korean Military Advisory Group) with the Korean Army January 1961 – June 1962, Special Forces 1962/1964, Fort Bragg, NC, B Troop, 2nd 17th Calvary, 101st Airborne Division (PLT SGT) Fort Campbell and Vietnam 1964/1968. E Company 17th Training BN, Senior Drill Sargeant, Fort Knox, KY 1969/1972, 1st Sgt CSC 4th BN, 64th Armor, Germany 1972/1976, 1st Sgt A Troop 4th 12th Calvary, Fort Polk, LA Instructor at the Sergeant Majors Academy, Fort Bliss, Texas 1978/1980, CSM 2/72nd Armor Bn, Korea 1980/1981, CSM 2/67 Armor Bn, CSM 2nd Bde, 2nd Armor Division, Fort Hood, TX 1981/1984. Setup & Briefing: Upon clearance and at the direction of the Ride Captain, we will move to the shelter, set up the flags, be briefed and await arrival of the procession.
