LTC William Howard Sievers, 86, US Army, Retired, Vietnam Veteran, Bronze Star w/OLC Recipient, of Copperas Cove, TX
The family of Lieutenant Colonel William Howard Sievers has requested the presence of the Patriot Guard Riders at the Committal Service of their Loved One.
William grew up in a military family before entering the United States Military Academy, West Point, from which he graduated in 1961 as a Field Artillery Second Lieutenant. After training in Olympic Pentathlon sports, Bill went to Ranger School, and earned the parachutist badge, and commanded a Battery at Fort Sill and in Germany. After a one year tour in Vietnam in 1967, he returned to Fort Sill to teach Tactics and Combined Arms to Career Artillery Officers. Vietnam Language school and the US Army Military Advisor Training Academy course preceded his second tour to Vietnam. Bill went to Fort Hood after his second tour in Vietnam was in the lst CAV Division as a Battalion Executive Officer and after graduation from Command and General Staff College, Bill was able to become an instructor in this course. During his career, he earned a Bronze Star with Oak Leaf Cluster, Air Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Ranger Tab, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Joint Service Commendation, Meritorious Service, Parachutist Badge, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm, and the Vietnam Campaign medal. Bill also enjoyed working as the Chief of Information and Security for the Battle Simulation Center, Fort Hood, for twenty years. Setup & Briefing: Upon clearance and at the direction of the Ride Captain, we will move to the shelter, set up the flags, be briefed and await arrival of the procession.
